The SC-5002 course is a Microsoft Applied Skills training designed to help learners develop practical, job-ready skills in securing Azure services and workloads using Microsoft Defender for Cloud and regulatory compliance controls. This course focuses on real-world cloud security scenarios and teaches how to improve an organization’s security posture while meeting compliance requirements in Microsoft Azure environments.

As organizations increasingly move workloads to the cloud, securing cloud resources and ensuring regulatory compliance has become a critical responsibility for IT and security professionals. SC-5002 addresses this need by providing hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure monitoring tools, and security configurations that protect infrastructure, data, and applications from modern threats.

Throughout the course, learners will gain a strong understanding of how Defender for Cloud works as a centralized security management and threat protection solution. The course begins by introducing cloud security concepts, Microsoft security benchmarks, and regulatory compliance standards supported by Azure. Learners will explore how to assess security posture, interpret secure score recommendations, and apply compliance controls to Azure subscriptions.

The course then moves into practical implementation, where learners enable and configure Microsoft Defender for Cloud, connect Azure subscriptions, and understand how security recommendations are generated. Key topics include filtering and controlling network traffic using Network Security Groups (NSGs), reducing attack surfaces, and applying best practices for network-level protection.

A major focus of SC-5002 is monitoring and visibility. Learners will configure Log Analytics workspaces and deploy the Azure Monitor Agent to collect logs, metrics, and security data from Azure resources. This enables continuous monitoring, threat detection, and compliance reporting across workloads.
